to their parent organizations, the SCAA and SCAE

Dublin, Ireland – This week, World Coffee Events licensed the workshop model for its Judges Certification Workshops (JCW) to its two parent organizations, the Specialty Coffee Association of America and Speciality Coffee Association of Europe. “This allows more opportunities to become certified as a judge in our world competitions.

The partnership with our parents will increase the frequency and accessibility to the certification workshop,” comments Carl Sara, 2013 Chair of the WCE Advisory Board.  During the 2013-2014 event season, the SCAA and SCAE will organize, manage and produce judges workshops worldwide either directly or through their global education partners. Certification will still be officially authorized and issued by World Coffee Events.

“We are very excited to offer these Judges Certification Workshops in more locations in Europe to help grow the number of European certified judges in the world championships,” comments Annemarie Tiemes, SCAE Education Coordinator.

With a motivation to make these workshops as widely available as possible, SCAA and SCAE have started on plans for a series of Judge Certification Workshops within various geographies worldwide. To date, this list includes:

  • November 15-16, 2013 – Williamsburg, VA (organized by SCAA)
  • February 2014 – the Americas – TBD (organized by SCAA)
  • February 2014 – Dublin, Ireland (organized by SCAE)
  • March 2014 – Ancona, Italy (organized by SCAE)

Exact dates and locations will be made available on the WCE website –http://www.worldcoffeeevents.org/judges/judge-certification-workshop/.

You can also find the SCAA events listed at www.scaa.org/events.

“Our goal is to offer a clear path and training opportunity to all interested individuals in becoming a world certified judge. By licensing the judges certification program to the SCAA and SCAE, we are able to improve the facilitation, promotion, and administration of these events,” says Cindy Ludviksen, WCE Managing Director.

The JCW is a certification program only.  For aspiring, future judges who are not yet prepared to apply for certification, a new series of education-focused modules are planned to be offered in early 2014 as well.
